INTERNSHIP
HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH ZURICH

Human Rights Watch (www.hrw.org) is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. By focusing international attention where human rights are violated, we give voice to the oppressed and hold oppressors accountable for their crimes. Our rigorous, objective investigations and strategic, targeted advocacy build intense pressure for action and raise the cost of human rights abuse. For 30 years, Human Rights Watch has worked tenaciously to lay the legal and moral groundwork for deep-rooted change and has fought to bring greater justice and security to people around the world.

Internship Description - The Human Rights Watch Development and Outreach office in Zurich is seeking an intern to assist with responsibilities including, but not limited to, event support in the lead up to the 2010 Zurich Dinner in November and various other events through May 2011, acknowledgment letters and other correspondence; foundation research, and updating and maintaining department databases and files.

Interns will gain knowledge of fundraising, event management, information tracking, and knowledge of the organization's priority human rights issues. In order to provide a valuable and well-rounded internship experience, interns have the opportunity to attend selected meetings and briefings with human rights watch researchers and take advantage of briefings.

The position begins in September 2010 and will last until the end of May 2011. The position may have flexible hours, approximately eight hours/week. The internship is unpaid.

Qualifications - Applicants should be detail-oriented, well-organized, self-motivated and reliable, with a strong interest in international human rights. Strong written and oral communication skills in German and English are required. Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are a must. Data entry experience and familiarity with Raiser's Edge or other databases are desirable.
